The temple's annual Durga Puja anthology — Bengali poetry and prose, reflections and artwork from our community. Free to read, every issue.

Sharad Utshav — literally “the autumn festival” — is the souvenir magazine Shiv Mandir publishes each year alongside Durga Puja. It began with the temple’s first Puja in 2021 and has appeared every autumn since, assembled by volunteers in the weeks before the celebration.

Each issue is a সংকলন — an anthology. It opens with a column from the editor and gathers poetry and prose in Bengali, reflections on scripture, and writing from members of Michigan’s Sanatan community, with cover art and layout by volunteers from the temple. The very first issue, Sharad Utshav ১৪২৮, appeared in October 2021.

Every issue is free to read. The files are large, because the artwork and photography are reproduced at print quality; on a phone you may prefer to download rather than open in the browser.

Write for the next issue

Sharad Utshav is put together by volunteers, every year. If you write, draw or photograph and would like to see your work in the next issue — in Bengali or in English — write to the editors. The issue goes to print in the weeks before Durga Puja, so earlier is better.
